“Passion” (ARTCONNECT video and photography open call submission)– Deime Ubani x Jerrad Cartwright A young Bahamian artist from a diverse heritage that recently opted to resign from her job (23 days prior to her nation’s borders closing) to pursue art full-time using her family’s artistic background, the objects of inspiration left behind by various family members, and Bahamian nature, to continue down a path of creativity and passion while battling society’s views on art. Shot by Jerrad Cartwright, this is a testimony of her inability to ignore the guiding path left for her or accept a life built on compromise. Using heritage, privilege, things she has and things she has lost to become a result of her creative surroundings. In turn, while pulling herself out of the sinkhole of sociological pressures and relishing in the frightening freedom that previous generations were not privy to, she laid the ground work for her development. Pushing herself out of an introverted comfort zone challenged her personally and creatively. Something that could not even be considered without passion for her craft.
